The Taste Announces 2018 Winners

INVERNESS, Fla - The City of Inverness announces the food competition winners from the Taste held April 14, 2018.  There are three components of the competition the Golden Ticket category, which is the qualifying category for the World Food Championships (WFC). The event recognizes eight additional categories, and the public votes for the best restaurant and artist at the event.

  • Golden Ticket Winner - Cattle Dog of Inverness, with a score of 84 out of 90. The Golden Ticket Category is the only World Food Championship category. Winning Dish: Pan Seared Scallop on Roasted Garlic Polenta. Owner and Chef James Cook will be heading to the WFC this November with a $1,000 travel stipend to compete with top international chefs.

The Taste general competition categories, not under the WFC:

  • Appetizer Winner, Barn Goddess of Dunnellon, with a score of 74 out of 90. Winning Dish: Pickled Vegetable Platter:
  • Bacon - Barn Goddess of Dunnellon, with a score of 77 out of 90. Winning Dish: Tomato Bacon Bisque.
  • Chicken - Barn Goddess of Dunnellon, with a score of 70 out of 90. Winning Dish: Smoked Chicken Salad on Croissant.
  • Sandwich - Cattle Dog of Inverness, with a score of 81.5 out of 90. Winning Dish: Twisted Mad Corned Beef Sandwich on a Scallion Pancake.
  • Seafood - Yai Yai Style Lounge, with a score of 76 out of 90. Winning Dish: Shrimp Scampi.
  • Dessert - Barn Goddess of Dunnellon, with a score of 89.5 out of 90. Winning Dish: Lemon Cake.
  • Steak - Katch 22 of Lecanto, with a score of 77 out of 90. Winning Dish: Steak with Chimichurri.
  • Burger - Burger Lab of Orlando, with a score of 77.5 out of 90. Winning Dish: Smoke Burger with Chipotle Mayo on Brioche Bun.
  • The Taste also invites the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Office to conduct a popular vote from attendees for the favorite restaurant and artist at the event. The public voted for Katch 22 as top restaurant and Jordan Shapot of Citrus Springs as top artist. More information at TasteofInverness.com.
